Lube guide: water vs silicone vs hybrid, in plain English
A short guide to picking lube without overthinking it. Most people only need one kind.
Lube is the most undersold accessory in this whole space. Everyone is happy to spend $200 on a vibe and skip the $12 bottle that decides whether the $200 vibe feels good or annoying.
Water-based: the default
Safe with every toy material. Washes off easily. Dries out faster than silicone, so keep the bottle nearby. This is the one you want if you only get one.
Sliquid H2O Original
Water-based, glycerin-free, paraben-free. Safe with every toy material. The default pick.
Silicone-based: lasts longer, can’t mix with silicone toys
Lasts much longer and is great for shower use. Catch: it bonds with silicone toys and degrades them. If your favorite toy is silicone — and most modern ones are — skip this.
Pjur Original Silicone
The benchmark silicone lube. Lasts forever, great for shower use. Don’t mix with silicone toys.
Hybrid: usually a marketing word
Hybrids try to combine both. They’re fine, but you can usually get what you want from a good water-based formula. Don’t overthink it.
